A cheesy caper movie with an electronic-surveillance subtext. Sean Connery is Duke Anderson, a master safecracker released from prison. He returns to slutty lover Dyan Cannon, who lives in a posh building ripe for burglary. Duke lays out an elaborate plan to infiltrate the place and rob all the tenants’ valuables. What he doesn’t know is that (A) the government has been tracking his every move since he got out of jail and (B) a little wheelchair-bound kid in the building has a ham radio.
If this sort of thing bores you, you may want to give it a chance anyway because Christopher Walken, as the young electronics whiz on Duke’s team, makes his Hollywood film debut (he’d previously done a bit role in the indie flick Me and My Brother) and performs with all the eagerness of a 28-year-old guy acting in his first major movie opposite Sean Connery. (Connery himself is a rather glum anti-hero.) If it’s early Walken you’re looking for, this one’s at least better than The Happiness Cage.
